A unique Border practice is at the US Mexico Border

The PACEMD program has set up an innovative International Emergency Medicine and Border Health Service:

Emergency Physicians who are interested in Emergency Medicine Development in Mexico and Latin America and need a change of pace for themselves and their families need to consider this! For Emergency Medicine Residency Graduates, this service offers an unsurpassed opportunity for hands on international EM while still keeping a needed clinical base in the United States!

We have identified 3 classes of emergency physicians that we think this program is well suited for:

1) The service is developing a Border and International Emergency Medicine Fellowship with the University of North Carolina and the Rio Grande Valley Emergency Physicians. The newly graduated  EM fellow who will  inprove their international and intercultural skills as well as help develop their specialty abroad.

2) The "mid career or peri-retirement" emergency physicians who is looking for a dramatic change in their working and living situation and who still dream of making a meaningful change in the world.

3) Academic Emergency physicians who are interested in program building as well as a platform for international and border health related grants.

Activities possible include supervising Medical Students, Residents and Staff (US and Mexican), developing training and education programs for physicians, paramedics and nurses, development of a Poison Control Center, Border Health and NAFTA/Occupational initiatives related to Emergency Medicine, developing a Disaster Team on the Border as well as other activities. We also participate in international conferencing as well as develop the Collaborative Center in Guanajuato. Spanish language training to Mastery level will be available.

Medical License in Texas and Emergency Medicine Expertise (preferably ABEM Board Certified or eligible) is required to work at our Texas Border sites.

This is a great model for development of International EM faculty from the US and Mexican EM capacity in Mexico and Latin America!
