We are very excited to be starting this Emergency Medicine Community Center in San Miguel de Allende.  It was our original goal to create a "field office" for the US Emergency Medicine community where we could assist in the development of Emergency Medicine in Latin America.  Since 1997, we have developed a track record of innovation and cost effective results which has resulted in conference development and sponsorships, an Emergency Utrasound Course (which has been taught in Panama and Argentina), advanced Airway courses, a trauma nurse provider and instructor course (TNCC), all in Spanish. We have also developed the only clinically based Medical Spanish Program in Latin America and provide Continuing Education Credits from the University of New Mexico.  We are presently teaching the PACE 1 Emergency Nursing course and plan to shortly begin the PACE 2 (Physicians) and PACE-3 (EMT) course. We are supporting the dissemination of the Fenix III course, an EXCELLENT Disaster, Trauma, Pre hospital course Pre Hospital Life Support Course which comes from the Medical College of Georgia. Advanced Obstetrical Live Supoort (ALSO) and other certificate courses for providers and instructors.

Dr. Haywood Hall, the founder of the PACEMD Program in Guanajuato, is an ASHOKA fellow (www.Ashoka.org and www.changemakers.net), was recently named the American College of Emergency Physicians Ambassador to Mexico. The PACEMD Academic Director, Darryl Macias, was named Ambassador to Argentina.

Below (left) is one of the classrooms at the PACEMD Center.  It is just the right size to teach the 16 - 24 people in a standard "certification" course.  There are other rooms which can provide some of the mannequin and practical skill stations for these courses. In actuallty, our concept of "community based" takes most of the courses to areas outside of San Miguel.  Many of our courses will be at the Red Cross and University based facilities around the state and throughout the country.

Below (right) is the Restaurant, Meson de San Jose, where we wiill do most of the "one on one" and small group instruction in Medical Spanish.  The facility is a true "community center" where will provide internet services to people in the program and allow for various informal get togethers in a charming setting right  in the center of town. The facility also is proud to host the weekly Rotatary Club meetings in this beautiful, historic building site.
