1st International Resuscitation Symposium
As part of the first anniversary of
San Miguel Seguro, PACEMD, in collaboration with the Mexican Society of Emergency Medicine (SMME) and the International Federation for Emergency Medicine (IFEM), organized the
1st International Resuscitation Symposium, held June 22–24, 2011, in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato.

Objective.
- Strengthen emergency response capacity.
- Improve medical care through the transfer of international knowledge and experience.
- Promote the development of Emergency Medicine as a specialty in Latin America.
Distinguished Participation.
Sixty-five international specialists participated, including:

- Dr. Gautam Bodiwala
- Dr. Robert O’Connor
- Dr. Robert Suter
impact.
- The event strengthened IFEM’s international network and promoted recognition of Emergency Medicine as an independent specialty in Latin America.
- It also laid the groundwork for Mexico City to host ICEM (International Conference on Emergency Medicine – IFEM) in 2018.
- Dr. Hall urged Latin American governments to formally recognize emergency medicine residency programs as an independent and differentiated medical specialty and encouraged them to become voting members of IFEM.
- Countries such as Panama, the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Ecuador, and Venezuela advanced the development of their emergency medicine programs following this regional momentum.
